This one is an oldy, but a goody! Way back in 2002, I was commissioned to do an illustration of a zombie bursting from his grave in the old EC Comics style! Being a huge fan of EC Comics artists like Graham "Ghastly" Ingles, Jack Davis and more contemporary guys like Berni Wrightson, I really had a blast doing this one! This was inked with brush, and gave me a chance to do some experimenting with drybrush techniques, spatter and so forth. Though I was no stranger to drawing zombies when I did this piece (I had spent years drawing zombies for Pinnacle Entertainments DEADLANDS Roleplaying Game prior to this). I think in many ways, this was a "break-thru" piece for me. People seem to like it, and I'm quite proud of it. Anytime I get to draw zombies, I have a blast! I also really get into drawing trees. Love me some trees!
Looking back on it, I can surely see the flaws in it, but that's a good thing too. With each drawing we learn something new, eh?
I made this image into a print to sell at conventions, and it has been my all-time best seller, and is nearly SOLD-OUT. I've had people ask me to use it in zombie comics, for tattoos, for t-shirts, and so forth. Since I'm currently using parts of the illustration as my business card logo and letterhead, I have declined selling the rights to this image, in which I am the sole owner and copyright holder (please, don't ask to use the image for your store logo, jacket, etc).
NOTE: If you like this image, and are interested in buying a signed, limited print of my zombie illustration, I can still oblige a LIMITED number of people before the print run ends! They're almost SOLD-OUT at this point. For now, I have no plans to do another B&W print-run of this one, but I may do a color version somewhere down the road. If you're interested in obtaining one of the b&w prints, please contact me via my website address (loston@lostonwallace.com). The price is $27 and PAYPAL is the preferred method of payment. Please inquire first to check if quantities are still available!
Jack Davis would indeed be impressed. Very nice! Actually, INCREDIBLE! His torso is the right combination of dehydrated flesh and dripping goo. And the hands are very expressive, especially the right hand, with it's splayed fingers.
hello I was curious if i could color this i will credit and not sell it and show you
