You're usually so serious with art pieces...and then the most warped sense of humor I've ever seen shows up. Like that DKR/sin city charlie brown and drunk superman...funny yet emotionally scarring O_O

Heh. A lot of people are always shocked at my sense of humor. I suppose my rep for being a "serious" guy stems from how I post on PJ. My theory is that if you want people to take you seriously, then you have to behave in a serious manner. If I spent all day clowning, I doubt I'd be of any help to people on the boards (other than a small source of amusement, maybe). My goal on Penciljack (and other such boards) has always been to try to help others become better artists. I dedicate time to this goal for several reasons--mostly because I like helping others and watching them grow as artists. I also do it because I never had anyone around to help me learn about art and drawing when I was growing up. There wasn't an art class of anykind to be had at my schools, nor was there really a knowledgible local artist to offer guidence or assistance. I lived in a VERY small, rural town in Virginia. There wasn't access to to very much, to be honest.

I taught myself to draw by learning to hone my skills of observation, trying hard to mimmick the real world or the cartoon worlds I stumbled onto in comics andon television. That's the hard way to go about things! It wasn't until 1994 when I found my way to the JOE KUBERT SCHOOL of ART that I got my first dose of real art training. I had to UNLEARN a lot of what I THOUGHT I knew, you see. I feel like I spent years and years spinning my wheels, trying to figure out how to draw things prior to attending the school. Boards like Penciljack are a godsend that many seem to completely take for granted. I'd have KILLED for such a wellspring of artistic knowledge and information when I was a teenager!

Every now and then I feel like I owe it to myself to let my hair down and just have a good time, and that's when my sense of humor usually bubbles to the surface. Here's such a bubble:

Yeah, that Robin is...uhm, "special". :D I once did a similarly twisted and warped Batman sketch for a friend once a few years a go, so the Robin is sort of "part 2" of that drawing. You can check that out here if you want. I made Batman look very uhm,...er, handsome:
