Artist's Comments

Here's a few Kirby flavored head shots of the Invisible Girl, Darkseid, Orion of the New Gods, Fin Fang Foom, the villainous Doctor Doom, and the ever-lovin', blue-eyed Thing! These were pencilled loosely and inked using a Faber-Castell Pitt brushpen.

Hope you enjoy them.

Very nice. How long did it take to get his style down? Reminds me of some old comics I stupidly traded away years ago...before I new how much I really missed them (and how much they were really worth).

;)
:iconlostonwallace:
I grew up reading comics drawn by Jack Kirby, who in the early 1960ws co-created (along with Stan Lee) the FANTASTIC FOUR, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, THE MIGHTY THOR, THE UNCANNY X-MEN, etc. Kirby's style influenced many artists--even more modern artists like Erik Larsen, Bruce Timm, Darwyn Cooke, and Mike Mignola.

I've been drawing Kirby stuff since I was a kid. Still, I can't say that I have Kirby's style down pat, or that I even want to try to master Jack's style. His influence on my own work is enough. These sketches are a salute to him and the comics of yesterday. I just occasionally break out the Kirby flavored work when I feel nostalgic for an era of comics when comic books were fun, meant to inspire the imagination, and possibilities for stories were endless.

Yes, I'm aware of most of Kirby's history and the like. When I said I foolishly traded the comics away I was meaning that it was almost 20 years ago. A friend told me they were worthless and offered a few dollars which I needed at the time...stupid move on my part, I know.

Back when I was a kid in the '70's, Kirby, Lee, Wrightson and Kubert were about the only styles that could remember. Some of the newer styles make me sick due to the lack of control and the constant overusage of the same style being in the industry. Its almost too hard to tell one from the other these days because they all seem to clone each other. Sad but true...

You have one of the nicest brush strokes I've seen. Great as always.

Jack would be proud, Loston. You do great homage to the old masters. :)

Hope you had a great holiday season. :)

Dude, your style already encompasses a lot of classic Marvel artists. If you start seriously channelling Kirby, you will make my head explode!

Really nice work!
