Colossus2commission by LostonWallace Colossus2commission by LostonWallace
Here is the finished COLOSSUS commission, featuring the classic character from the UNCANNY X-MEN. This was drawn on 11"X17" Strathmore Bristol board, and was inked with Speedball Super Black India Ink applied with a Raphael Kolinsky Red Sable brush (8404). The scene depicts Peitro Raspuptin, walking through the ruined streets of Prypiat, the site of the Chernobyl Disaster. I hid a couple of initials of some of my favorite X-MEN artists and Inkers in the rubble, so I hope you enjoy that!
UPDATE: Here is a cheat sheet to help you find the biggest item hidden in the rubble: [link]

Colossus is always a fun character to draw because he has an iconic look like no other superhero, and I really dig drawing his metallic skin. Colossus was always an instant favorite of mine when I was a kid reading the Phoenix Saga era of the UNCANNY X-MEN. "Pete" was an artist, which I related to, but I loved his honesty and bravery. I like those values in a character.

I dedicate this image to the memory of Dave Cockrum.

Stay shiny!
-Loston

I check the link you posted and I spot the hammer and sickle on the right, but I can see some letters created with stones merging on the left...I can spot a "B" and a "T" but I didn't get the meaning

Hidden in the rubble are the initials of two X-MEN art teams. The initials are: "JB", "TA" "PMS" and "BW". JB = John Byrne. TA= Terry Austin. PMS= Paul Smith ("Smitty" on PJ). BW= Bob Wiacek. :batman:

Thanks, Bill. I did my best to draw the Colossus I remember from my youth. I was more partial to Byrne's interpretation of the character back in the day, but I loved Dave Cockrum's take on all the X-Men as well. Dave was a true industry talent, and I miss his work.

I see JB for John Byrne, I imagine? MS = Mark Silvestri... TA? BW? Guess I'm not up to snuff on my xmen artist trivia...

the cheat sheet is showing the hammer and sickle?

You got the John Byrne initials! However it's not "MS." Nothing against Silvestri, but the tributes here are too artists from the time period when I was a regular reader. The "MS" is only part of the initials. It is actually "PMS", which are Paul Smith's initials. The other initials are for inkers. TA= Terry Austin. BW= Bob Wiacek.

Byrne, Cockrum were the only names I knew from back then on Uncanny. Never even knew inkers existed when I was a kid (no offense meant to them). I had to look at a list on wiki to see what the initials all could possibly mean and even with that list I screwed up! lol

I don't think Silvestri would take offense... ;)

if that T is an A with something on top that *could* be Art Adams... whom I love. Speaking of love... that a heart under the JB?

This is stunning, Loston! Really appreciate the insane amount of detail you put into it. Colossus is one of my faves from back in the day as well, and you really captured him well. Very cool idea to tuck the initials into the rubble as well. A real pleasure to look at all-around.
